Michael Heizer is mostly known for his large-scale land art and sculptures, particularly for his monumental earthworks “Double Negative” and “City,” but he also creates sculptures using more traditional materials like wood and stone. His circle sculptures, often incorporating geometric shapes and natural forms, explore themes of geometry, natural phenomena, and the relationship between art and the environment. The several elements of this work, displayed individually on a base of the artist’s construction, form a circle when joined – although it’s not as easy to put them together in a whole as might appear, given the irregular angles of some of the parts.
