God plaatste Adam in de Hof van Eden en vertelde hem dat hij de vrucht van alle bomen in de tuin kon eten, behalve van de boom van de kennis van goed en kwaad. (Genesis 2:21).
Although no surviving work can be firmly documented as by Isenbrant (and this work has variously been sold as Isenbrant or his workshop or even “Flemish school”), works attributed to him will often have flaming red or dark blue set against the idyllic background of a lush, hilly landscape with castles situated on top of a vertical rock (typical for Isenbrant), with sinuous rivers and thick-leaved trees (showing the influence of Gerard David, whose workshop was nearby Isenbrandt’s in Bruges).
