Shadow joins the artist’s painting Emergence, which is also in the collection.
In the artist’s words: “having them as companion pieces in the same collection creates a connection between them, even if hung separately. The feeling that they are almost the same moment in time, captured from a different perspective and in a different medium. Or the same woman at different moments in time. When I paint I paint from life, whereas this monotype I created from memory. I am drawn to the sensitivity of both worlds, but monotype is particularly responsive as the ink needs to be captured at the precise moment the image is forming. There is a freedom in it, but its also a tightrope, as it is so sensitive to touch and timing.”
